Summary

Annotations can be hyperlinked to other documents or transcripts on the platform, allowing users to quickly navigate to the relevant document or transcript.

We've set out how to create a hyperlinked annotation below.

Annotations can only contain one hyperlink and they will be viewable to the recipients of the annotation, i.e. they cannot  be shared with other parties.
More information on how to populate an annotation can be found here.

Creating a Hyperlinked Annotation

  1. Highlight Text or Page Area - Click and drag over any section of text or area in a document or transcript and the Annotation tool should appear.
    1.  A document must be OCR'd (text searchable) to affix an annotation to the text itself. If it does not contain OCR data, the note will affix to the area on the page.
  2. Add the Hyperlink - Users can populate the Annotation tool as normal and before saving, press Link to open the Select a Document window.
  3. Select the Target Document - Within the Select a Document window, either navigate through the folder structure or search through the metadata to locate the relevant target document or transcript. You can then create the link to one of three levels:
    1. Document - Click on the paper icon to the left of the document entry to create the link to the first page.
    2. Specific Page - Click on the paper icon to the left of the document entry and select the relevant page from the Page dropdown that should appear in the bottom left of the window, to create the link to the specified page.
    3. Passage of Text - Click on the document name to open a preview of the target document. Highlight the relevant passage of text and select Create Link.
  4. Apply the Hyperlink - Press Apply to apply the hyperlink and Save on the annotation to create the link.
  5. Review the Hyperlink - The highlighted text or area should now have a blue underline that can be selected to navigate the target document of the hyperlink.
    1. A Link Icon should appear in the body of the annotation itself. Users can select the icon to see a preview of the target document and then can select the preview to be taken to the full document.
Users can edit an existing annotation to add a hyperlink using steps 2 to 5 above. More information on how to edit an annotation can be found here
